Friday Night Lights are back and better than ever this football season! Norwin students anticipate this Friday’s Sept. 1 home game against Penn Hills. Last Friday at Upper St. Clair, the Knights gave the Panthers a run for their money in the first game of the season falling 24-21. At tonight’s first home game against Penn Hills, Norwin Castle Crew and students are ready to come dressed in their best beach attire with absolutely no worries about…hold the press. There are some new home football game rules and regulations Norwin students and families should be aware of before heading to the game.
Don’t worry Norwin students, no where in the new rules does it say you can’t dress in lays and sunglasses for our beach theme, but there are definitely some major changes and additions to the already existing rules that students, parents, and all fans must know before entering the stadium to watch Norwin take on the Penn Hills Indians this Friday night.
Fans planning on attending, should be aware that one of the clear rules is that students are expected to follow school district policies. This, of course, is nothing new. However, some new seating arrangements and regulations will be implemented tonight including:
- All Norwin Knight fans (including students) will enter and occupy the home side of the stadium, located on the press box side.
- Students are required to show their student ID upon entry.
- A new designated student entrance has been established on the home side of the stadium.
- Middle School students will only be permitted to enter the stadium provided they are accompanied by a parent, guardian, or responsible adult. A dedicated Middle School Student section will be designated by game administration.
- Hillcrest and Elementary School students will only be permitted to enter the stadium provided they are accompanied by a parent, guardian, or responsible adult. Students will be expected to remain with the adult throughout the entirety of the game.
Norwin High School principal, Dr. Michael Choby, assures that these transitions are to benefit and better protect the student body as well as the community for fun and safe Friday night games.
“We are hoping that this plan supports all of our students preforming on Friday night, specifically the football team, when we focus on having everyone on one side so that the team and other students can feel the entirety of the home support,” Choby said. Choby also mentioned combining all of the cheerleaders on the home side as well as moving the band from the stands to the end zone will helped “create that unified Norwin environment.”
Another big question that Choby answered was the reasoning for the new designated student entrance.
“Our goal is to help people to find the right areas,” Choby said. “We don’t want Penn Hills students sitting where the Norwin students are supposed to be sitting for safety and security reasons. This student entrance will help us to direct them to the right areas. It also just makes sure that procedures are being followed in general.”
It is very important to know that students must also have some form of school ID with them in order to enter the stadium. Students may use either their physical or online Skyward ID.
Changing to all Norwin Fans being on one side of the stadium, having a designated high school and middle school student section, as well as the various other new procedures that are to be implemented, may create a controversial conversation now. However, these new rules and regulations are designed to help protect everyone attending the games, and to also ensure a fun and enjoyable experience. Not to mention the noise that will be coming in unity from all Norwin fans to hopefully fill our Knights with excitement to take down the opposing team!
