After a rough 2022-23 football season, the Knights needed change. With this need to change, the Norwin Knights football team brought in Coach Mike Brown who formerly led Hempfield. Along with Coach Brown, came an almost completely new staff who are working to turn around the Norwin football program. Over the summer, the Knights have been working tirelessly as to prepare for another year with a tough schedule.
To start the season the Knights played Upper Saint Clair, who the Knights lost to last season with a score of 6-42. This year, the Knights put out a shocking performance despite the odds and nearly beat USC, but fell short 21-24. With a generally good performance the coaching staff will need to make some adjustments for there future games. However, the Knights would fall to the #1 ranked 5A Penn Hills Indians 0-27 the following week.
“First game went well, the players fought hard,” Coach Mike Brown said. “We just have to eliminate the mental mistakes and play all 60 mins from start to finish.”
Coach Mike Brown in the past led Hempfield to some winning seasons and is hoping to bring his success to Norwin, and so far, they are building what is looking to be a great season for the Knights. Along with success, Coach Brown is looking to bring other aspects from his old team.
“We brought from our old program is our core values,” Coach Brown said. “Being Tough, Physical and what I think it is the most important is Family.”
Despite the Knights facing a heartbreaking defeat to the USC panthers and a week 2 setback, Coach Brown is keeping their heads up, having them focus on one game at a time, continue to work hard every practice.
“We are just focusing on getting better each and every day,” Coach Brown said. “Worrying about accomplishing winning each day will lead to the goals and success in the future.”
With this culture brought by Coach Brown and his staff, the Knights have plenty of success ahead of them if they keep working hard and fight for each other every single day whether its practice or game day.
