In support of innocent children and families stuck in the conflict between Israel and Palestine, two Norwin students started a project to raise funds for people in need of help. Fatima Sheraz (9) and Gabriella Zimmerman (11) began this project in the FCCLA (Family Career Community Leaders of America) club, and students from FCCLA and Global Scholars attended workshops to help.
The girls saw a problem and jumped at the opportunity to help.
“The goal of this project is to help raise money and provide any sort of support to the innocent people included in the conflict on both sides,” said Sheraz.
Sheraz and Zimmerman came up with the idea to make cupcakes and bracelets, and have a table at lunch to get people’s attention and inspire donations. There were free cupcakes given to people with a minimum of a $0.50 donation, and donuts given to people with a minimum of a $1.00 donation. In addition to pastries, hand-made bracelets were on sale for $2.00 each. All items were on sale during the week of December 4-8.
All proceeds from this project will go to the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund for the families on the Palestinian side, and Magen David Adom for the families on the Israeli side.
“I believe this project will be a success and we will be able to reach our goal by providing support for both sides,” said Sheraz. “Our community can come together and help in any way we can to recognize the big losses and help support.”
