Norwin High School students and guests jingled all the way to Snoball this past weekend. Snoball took place on Sat. December 16th from 6 to 10 pm at Stratigos Banquet Center. Snoball consisted of a dinner, dessert, crowning of the Snoball King and Queen, a DJ, and a night of dancing for all students.
The Norwin High School National Honors Society Office was in charge of making sure the dance went smoothly and efficiently. The NHS office has been in charge of the dance for a few years now, creating flowers, putting together voting polls, and providing flowers for the Snoball King and Queen.
“The easiest part is the fact that stratigos takes care of all the decorating and such,” said English teacher Paul Amic, head of Honors society office. “We announce the Snoball King and Queen and put together the fliers. During the ticket purchasing process, people are constantly emailing to change seats and tables. We are lucky to get so much help from the event center, so the Snoball event is not too stressful for us, but were always excited to provide an event like this to students.”
This year, Norwin High School Student Council provided crumble cookies for all attendees as a nice touch for when students find their seats.
Once students arrive at the dance, they found their reserved seats and began to settle in. The tables held 10 people, meaning 5 couples sat at the table. Once comfortable, students walked around the event center to find their friends and their dates to talk to, eager for everyone else to arrive. Once everyone arrived, students were instructed to return to their seats in order to begin voting for the King and Queen as well as to prepare for dinner. Once their table was called, students headed towards the buffet to get their food. After dinner concluded and votes were certain, the Snoball King and Queen were announced.
The Snoball queen candidates were seniors Madison Hovan, Ella Black, and Alana Samek. Snoball king candidates were seniors Alex Ward, Luke Klamut, and Logan Bold. The overall votes came to crown Ella Black as Snoball queen and Luke Klamut as Snoball king.
From there, students were able to grab dessert and finish the night off with more dancing.
The Snoball dance was the first formal dance of the year. The popular attire consisted of students wearing long dresses of various colors and designs accompanied by a clean and coordinated outfit from their date. For many people, searching and finding the perfect outfit for Snoball is one of the most exciting and important parts of the entire event.
“My date’s dress is baby pink with navy shoes,” said junior Matt Rivera. “I’m wearing a light pink tie with a navy shirt, gray suit, and navy shoes. She enjoys going shopping, but sometimes dress shopping can be quite stressful. Regardless, I think she always enjoys getting ready for dances like these.”
For this year’s dance, Tickets to attend the dance were available on the Hometown Fan app. Students were able to purchase tickets as an individual or as a couple to reserve seats for their dinner table. Tickets were at a set cost of $42 per person.
