Q: Explain the performance… What was it for? How did you “get in”?
A: My sister and I submitted an audition video to Highmark’s First Night Sing-Off Competition. The winner and four finalists of this competition had the opportunity to sing at First Night in Pittsburgh, which is New Year’s Eve. My sister and I were elated to be chosen as finalists this year!
Q: What did you sing? Why did you choose that song?
A: We sang “Don’t Stop Believing” by Journey. I chose this song for the hit that it is, and knew that we could perform it well. Also, the song brings in an inspiring message to start off the new year.
Q: Describe how the experience felt.
A: The experience felt incredibly surreal, as I had never imagined singing on a stage in Pittsburgh’s cultural district. It was awesome to command the stage, and I felt larger-than-life. And for those five minutes, I feel like my sister and I were rockstars!
Q: Do you have any plans to pursue music in the future? If yes, explain what you want to do.
A: Currently, my sister and I are booking gigs for our band, The Ripped Jeans. We played our first gig in November, and we are both excited for the opportunities! I am currently preparing for PMEA District 1 Choir, which takes place January 24-26. I’m also thrilled to be participating in Norwin’s upcoming spring musical Grease!
Q: Any further comments you’d like to make…
