The Norwin Girls Bowling Team is back and making a playoff run, after an undefeated season with a 10-0 record. The Lady Knights took on the WPIBL Team Championship on February 15, in hopes of keep up the legacy of the Norwin Girls Team in the bowling playoffs. The Norwin girls bowling team finished in third place in the round, losing to only Plum and Freeport. Plum finished with a pin total of 2672, Freeport with 2603, and Norwin with 2514, ultimately giving the Norwin Girls third place for this round. In the Finals, the Norwin girls won second place again in Bakers games, losing to just Plum in the WPIBL girls team tournament.
Whereas for the WPIBL singles tournament, the girls still have a shot at glory and making a big time playoff run. The first round took place on Thursday, February 22. At this head-to-head competition, unfortunately no girl bowlers advanced to finals at the WPIBL singles competition; however, all six girls from Norwin, (Kali Siegel, Angela Furin, Kari Siegel, Gabby Anders, Raeana Bruce, and Teresa Solano) qualified for the next competition, the PA Western Regional Championship, placing 10, 11, 14, 21, 45, and 54 respectively. ”I thought it went really well for the girls and I, Gabby Anders said. “This is the second time I have qualified but the first time that I did well because I did not have an injury. I am very excited to go to Regionals this year.”
The Girls Team ended up competing in only the Team Regional Competition on March 8th. The Lady Knights ended up bowling and getting 5 place out of 20 teams in the regional competition. This resulted in the Girls Team qualifying for the State Championship.
At the State Competition the girls were able to get 10th out of 12 teams in the whole.
BOYS Bowlers…
Although the Knights Boys Bowling Team came up short of qualifying for the WPIBL Team Championship, Norwin bowlers Jake Sincak and Hunter Cook took their chance at glory on Wednesday, February 21, in the WPIBL Championship Boys Singles. The boys hoped to get within the top 70 bowlers in order to qualify for PA Western Regional Championship Boys Singles on February 27. Both Jake and Hunter have been working diligently at their bowling skills to cement a spot at Regionals, as the they have each had additional practice every weekend without the rest of the team since January 28.
In this head-to-head singles matchup Jake Sincak started the day off strong bowling his first game as his high game at 204. Also, Hunter Cook bowled his high game in game 2 bowling a 188. Both Jake and Hunter were able to hold together their averages as they bowled a 548 series and a 534 series respectively. This placed Jake at 47th place and Hunter at 58th place. The cut based on their performance in this matchup was the top 40, but they annually take an additional 30 based on regular season average. This led to Jake not qualifying for Regionals by 6 pins and Hunter to qualify. Hunter will continue to practice until the Regional matchup on Friday March 1.
“I’m just happy to be there,” Cook said.
