Senior Drew Brown announced his plan to run in the 2026 General Election for Pennsylvania Governor last Tuesday the 19th after Theatre prep. Brown expressed his hope to fill this position since he was a young child, and has made it clear that he plans to become the youngest Pennsylvania Governor in history.
At the young age of five, young Brown displayed the characteristics of a natural-born leader. One time he led a group of kids across the street and organized a game of kickball. Growing into his young elementary school self, Brown always took the role of homeroom coordinator or hallway monitor, line leader, trash collector, paper-passer-outer, cafeteria line coordinator, and even gym class superstar, ensuring the safety and organization of his fellow peers.
When Brown entered high school, he automatically continued his leadership involvement through positions such as class President, Show Choir service chair, FBLA president, founder of Mock Trial, Model UN secretary, head of table 17 in the cafeteria booth, Fishbowl discussion leader, food safety inspector, theatre choreographer and much more. From kindergarten to high school, Brown earned tremendous grades, too.
Brown graduates in May 2024, giving him the time and ability to run in the 2026 general election. Brown always knew he would run for PA Governor once he was of age. However, he did not expect to be eligible to run for some time, until a Pennsylvania Law was changed, making Brown eligible to run at the age of 12 for Governor. Currently being 18, Brown will probably be one of the older candidates for the 2026 election.
“I had always dreamed of becoming an elected official in Pennsylvania,” said Brown. “I was ecstatic when I learned of the age restriction being expanded to 12. Starting early will give me a head start in expanding my campaign support for further official positions.”
Previously, in order to be a Governor of Pennsylvania, the age limit stood at 30 years old. Now that the age restriction has allowed for 12 years and up, Brown anticipates some competitors in his age range, as well.
“There sure is a lot of gubenatorial candidates in the middle school,” said Brown. “I saw a kid governing his lunch tables’ Fortnite usage the other day and another kid governing his dodgeball team in Mr. Gubanich’s physical education class.”
However, with his natural leadership skills and success in his educational career, Brown is certain he will receive overwhelming support.
“Drew Brown is the type of student that only comes through this school every so often,” said junior class advisor Mrs. Brentzel. “When I had Drew in my class office, he was outstanding. Such a positive person and certainly a multitasker with the ability to impact others with his leadership skills. He will absolutely have my support when he runs in the 2026 election, as long as he doesn’t eat any more fish out of the tank in my room.”
Other than the driving support from Norwin High School, Brown is so qualified for the role, that he believes he has the ability, skill, and education to sway the PA population as a whole.
“I studied under Mayor Bartels and Mayor Jeff Clem. I am currently serving an internship with Kim Ward and am looking to become the youngest congressman in the state,” said Brown.
Brown’s confidence and determination, keep his supporters wondering what he plans to do post-governor position. Because Governors serve four years and are limited to two terms, it is very possible that Brown considers future congress positions such as getting involved in the Senate or becoming President of the United States.
“As of right now, I’m focused on the Governor position, but I am fairly optimistic that my governmental professional career will continue in the near future,” said Brown.
