Who lives in a pineapple, under the sea? Norwin High School’s Theatre Company President, Luke Klamut, has officially made a big break. Klamut announced that he will have the honor and privilege to perform in SpongeBob SquarePants, the Broadway musical.
“Today really is the best day ever,” expressed Klamut. “I am so grateful to have the opportunity to not only be on Broadway, but to play my absolute dream role.”
The audition process for Broadway musicals can be extremely extensive and demanding. Klamut’s experience as President of the Norwin Theatre Company prepared him for both the audition process and his role on the stage.
“To prepare for my audition, I binged watched all 14 seasons, 194 episodes of SpongeBob, twice,” said Klamut. “I knew I had to really know my character to play him, and it only took me like 150 hours. Then, I stared into the mirror for hours, to find my inner SpongeBob SquarePants, and perfected my laugh.”
Klamut has grown up in the theater community, and has both substantial knowledge and a background within the audition process and theater productions.
“I have been through countless auditions being a part theater for so many productions,” added Klamut. “The key is confidence. I walked into that audition room wearing my red tie, and pants way too high.”
On March 24, Klamut wrapped up his high school theater career in his last production. He has been apart of NTC since middle school.
Klamut has been watching and studying SpongeBob since an extremely young age.
“For as long as I can remember all I’ve ever wanted to be was SpongeBob Squarepants,” Klamut stated. “He really is a hero and inspiration to so many, like myself. After all, my first words were “Krabby Patty.” My background in theater and knowledge of SpongeBob makes me perfect for this job.”
Broadway is extremely competitive, but is also a rewarding experience. Klamut’s resume and experience in theater for the past 18 years is how he got to where he is today.
“I‘ve worked really hard to get to where I am today, and to score this role of a lifetime,” explained Klamut. “I really can say that I‘m ready, I‘m ready.”
