Norwin High School senior Alex Ward recently committed to Rutgers University to play Division 1 flag football. This flag football season, Ward threw 59 touchdowns, ran 4,571 yards, and only had 3 interceptions. His performance grabbed the attention of many college scouts and he even received offers from Stanford, Duke, Harvard, and IUP.
“This is pretty sweet,” said Ward when asked about how he felt about his commitment. “They’re lucky to have me, I’m a dog.”
Ward intends to major in Child Development and Early Childhood Education and is dedicated to continuing to pursue his unmatched talent on the field. His dedication to his academics and athletics sets a promising path for him.
Not only did Ward’s talent secure him a place at Rutgers, but his legendary performance in the Inter-league Championship has brought significant recognition to the school district and Ward himself.
“I threw 432 yards and 8 touchdowns,” explained Ward. “The board of flag football was so bamboozled they gave my school a stipend of $500,000.”
The stipend will be used to build the Ward Wing at Stewartsville Elementary School (Alex’s alma mater). The Ward Wing will consist of a football field to be used ONLY by students who are actively flag football players. He will also begin flag football private lessons for students who aspire to reach his level of talent. His lessons are 5 days a week for a measly $100 a night.
“I charge that much because I’m a dog,” explained Ward.
It is hoped that this field will symbolize the lasting impact of Ward’s achievements beyond the football field. His contribution to the community and dedication to excellence serve as an inspiration to aspiring athletes and scholars, promising a bright future for both himself and those he continues to inspire.
