The Norwin Theatre Company (NTC) is gearing up to put on its annual fall high school production this year. In the past, the company put on plays such as Shakespeare’s classic, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and a trio of one-act plays, and they’re excited to put on their newest, unique entry in their legacy of fall productions.
This fall, NTC will put on a Fall Showcase consisting of various songs, short plays, monologues, and big production numbers from various musical theatre history. These different elements of the showcase are taken from different eras and mediums. The NTC plans a large variety of performances for their upcoming production, as the Showcase features songs from: the nautical and romantic Broadway musical, Anything Goes; the smash-hit historical musical, Hamilton; the classic jukebox musical, Mamma Mia!; and the romantic cinematic phenomenon, La La Land. Many involved are excited by the new feeling of this production compared to past productions.
“What excites me most about the fall showcase is the collaboration and the very new feeling concept,” said NTC student co-president A.Sweitzer. “In the past, the NTC had done fall productions like the one we are doing, but I had never gotten to participate.”
”I’m excited to be doing something new in the fall!!”, said NTC student co-president Abigail Szymanski.
NTC producer, director, and sponsor, Lauren Scheirer said the Fall Showcase was chosen as this year’s fall production to “better showcase the multitude of talent we have at Norwin High School,” as there will be a large range of performances within the Showcase, giving the NTC a chance to show their range.
“We’re definitely aiming to rehearse differently in a way that can focus on larger group numbers first,”, said Szymanski, “while also incorporating our smaller acts throughout to get the most out of a few short weeks.”
“I am so excited to see everyone come together and paint this beautiful picture, regardless if we are dancing, singing, acting, etc.,” said Sweitzer. “Theater has been my escape, my second home.”
This year is Sweitzer’s fourth year with the NTC, and this is their seventh production with the company.
The Fall Showcase is currently in the rehearsal stage and will be put on in the Norwin High School auditorium from October 10-13. Advance tickets will be on sale on the NTC website and at the door. The Norwin Theatre Company hopes to see you there.
“The Theatre Company works hard to get better every single year in any way possible,” said Scheirer. “We focus on improving our technical aspects, showing the audience even better choreography, and refining our vocal talent as best we can!”
