In late September, Norwin High School was struck with an unimaginable tragedy— the Taco Line at lunch was nowhere to be found. This caught the populous of Norwin as a complete surprise, and many students felt highly emotional about the departure of their valuable tacos. After a couple weeks, the taco line returned, but students were still completely puzzled as to where they went in the first place.
In the Taco Line, students could get a walking taco with Doritos or Fritos, and then top it with any vegetables and cheese of their choosing, creating a walking taco. These tacos were one of the most beloved items in the cafeteria, with a high percentage of students eating the Taco Line for lunch on a consistent basis. It’s because of this appreciation for the tacos that the closing of the line had such an impact on Norwin students.
“I always get a taco with extra chicken. They’re tasty,” said sophomore Holden Sikora.
Sikora is just one example of a multitude of students who enjoy Norwin’s tacos greatly. “I’m so glad they’re back,” said Sikora.
Many students wondered why the Taco Line disappeared in the first place. According to Norwin’s Director of Food & Nutrition Service Rod Stewart, it all came down to one thing– staffing. “
“The taco line was closed temporarily due to lack of permanent staff,” said Stewart.
The cafeteria lacked staffing, so they had to take away the Taco Line in order to allocate employees to other more essential areas. Once students realized this, their initial disappointment over the loss of the Taco Line was quelled, and most of them were very understanding about the situation.
Now, students have nothing to worry about in terms of their tacos ever being taken again.
When asked if the Taco Line would remain a constant in the cafeteria for the future, Stewart said: “The Taco Line will be open every day, unless we have further staffing issues.”
This came as incredible news for students, who are all looking forward to their future years of tacos at Norwin High School.
