Nov. 6, the Bel Canto Treble Choir participated in the 19th annual Pine Richland Choral Invitational. The current group singers never participated in this event before, and it took place at Pine Richland High School in Gibsonia. The event brought together three choirs from across the Pittsburgh area to showcase their talents and grow a sense of community among local choirs
The Bel Canto Treble Choir, directed by Bridget Faulk, impressed both the audience and judges with their exceptional vocal harmonies and dynamic stage presence. Performing a diverse selection of pieces, the choir demonstrated their technical skill and emotional depth, even exploring new and more difficult genres of song.
“This night is about sharing music, being supportive of the other groups and singers, and enjoying one another’s company,” said Mr. Lee Rickard, Pine-Richland Choral director and the organizer of the event. “My true win for the evening is the interactions among the guest choirs – I love the new friendships and bonds that are made each year at this event.”
The event, which featured a variety of performances by high school choirs, not only celebrated the talent of young singers but also encouraged growth through collaboration and friendly competition. The Bel Canto Treble Choir’s participation marked a significant milestone in the choir’s history, helping to build the choir’s reputation and bringing new energy to the school’s music program.
“I loved the set sung by Norwin,” said Rickard. “It was so powerful and uplifting. “Bach Again” is one of my all-time favorite pieces. The arrangement of “Somewhere over the Rainbow” is so good, and the performances of “Isle of Innisfree” and “Bring Me Little Water Sylvie” were just so perfectly executed. You can tell this group LOVES what they do and take great pride in their work.”
In addition to the performance, students received valuable feedback from a Slippery Rock alumni, who was adjudicating the event. This feedback will allow them to further their musicality and grow as musicians in a constructive way. Many of the students expressed excitement about the experience, noting how much they had learned and how positive they felt about the event.
As the night came to a close, the Bel Canto Treble Choir was applauded for its excellent musicianship and commitment to the choral arts. This memorable experience is sure to inspire the choir throughout their season and carry on into their upcoming performance tour in Washington D.C. in March.
