Did you swim growing up in high school or college?
I swam in high school but I was an average swimmer. I started coaching because when I interviewed for my first teaching position, they asked what sport I could coach and when I said swim, they said if I did both, I was hired. So I did.
What made you fall in love with the sport?
I like that swimming is both an individual and team sport. You are alone in the water, racing the clock and trying to get a best time, but also trying to beat the person next to you to get points for your team. I like that you get out of swimming what you put into it.
What kinda swim culture do you want to build for the high school team?
My kids loved high school swim team – the memories, the comradery, all of it. So I hope to build a culture that encourages that sense of fun and enthusiasm and encouragement and excellence. We will celebrate our individual successes as a team, and hopefully those will become team successes as well.
How are you going to juggle the dynamic of club and school swim happening at the same time?
Oh my gosh, I have seriously no idea. I will DEFINITELY rely on my assistant coaches for both teams a LOT – and I will DEFINITELY rely on Mrs Mihalov for sanity A LOT
As a swim coach and a mom how exciting is it watching your kids swim in college?
It’s so fun. It is such a pleasure to watch them swim. If they never have another success in the pool, it has been a pleasure to watch them and support them.
