Frost, snow, and chill–these wintery factors can only mean one thing for Norwin students–the school’s upcoming annual winter formal, Snoball! Having been a long-time staple of the winter season and upcoming break for Norwin, this year will be no different, with the dance being held on December 21 at Stratigos Banquet Center from 6-10 p.m for Norwin sophomores, juniors, and seniors who purchased tickets.
The impending event is undoubtedly exciting as it occurs after the last day of school right at the start of winter break. Coincidentally, the dance will be held on the first official day of winter! Snoball makes the day all the more festive and on-theme as students prepare to celebrate their respective winter holidays with friends and family (and receive a break from schoolwork!)
For the last few years, Snoball has been planned and organized by Norwin’s National Honors Society (NHS) and this year is no different.
“Stratigos really takes care of everything,” said Mr. Paul Amic, head of the club. “On our end, we take care of ticket sales, […] nominations for Snoball court, and ultimately we have to set up voting,”
Amic and the rest of the Norwin NHS also take care of things like DJ coordination and non-Norwin guest forms.
Upon arriving at Stratigos on the evening of the dance, students will find the table that they selected when they purchased their tickets and be seated until it is time for dinner which is, of course, provided by the banquet center as well as dessert!
Following their filling feast, students will then be able to take to the floor and dance the night away with their partners, friends, and fellow students! The dance floor is also where the Snoball King and Queen will be announced later that night after students vote for them right at the dance on their phones. The nominees for Snoball King are Colin Bruno, Ameer Elatrache, and Mike Strutt while the nominees for Snoball Queen are Serena Borrelli, Alaina Fonzi, and Kyla Coyne.
Snoball is the first fully formal event of the year, allowing for floor-length dresses, full tuxedos, and suits that would not have been appropriate for Homecoming back in October. The increased formality of the event is also exciting for couples shopping for matching outfits.
“My date and I did decide to wear coordinating colors,” said senior Keira Lepley. “We are wearing emerald green”
While planning outfits, pictures, and other components for Snoball can be stressful for those attending, many find that this is outweighed by the fun that they will have and the unforgettable memories they will make.
“Just come and have a good time. That’s what it’s all about” Mr. Amic advises.
It goes without saying that Snoball is eagerly awaited by all attendees as well as the people that helped plan and coordinate the event.
