On December 4th, the Toys for Pittsburgh Tikes Foundation parked their limo outside of Door 26 at Norwin High School. Norwin partnered with the foundation in hopes of helping the organization with their mission of supporting children in need throughout the Pittsburgh area by providing toys and books during the holiday season.
“The hope is that our athletes, families, fans, and faculty, and staff will help to stuff the limo with items,” said Ms. Kelly Jones, Norwin High School’s vice principal.
Initially, the thought behind bringing the limo in early December was to match up the timing for donation with the beginning of the winter sports season in effort to encourage Norwin’s winter sports teams to donate.
The kick-off to the donation occurred at a large wrestling event. Both male and female Norwin wrestlers participated in this event which was held at Canon McMillan High School. Jones reached out to all Norwin wrestling coaches as well as to all Canon McMillan coaches to inform them about donating to Toys for Pittsburgh Tikes. On the day of the event, both Norwin and Canon McMillan students arrived with toys upon toys for the foundation. That night, the Norwin bus returned with bags of toys for children in need.
While the wrestling event handled a large portion of the donations, many other sports teams contributed to stuffing the limo. Norwin teachers, staff, and community members donated as well.
Overall, the Norwin community collected 100 toys to donate to the Toys for Pittsburgh Tikes Foundation. The school and community efforts will help the foundation in their efforts to improve the holiday season for many children.
