All of Norwin’s choirs performed the annual Norwin High School Winter Chorus Concert on the evening of Dec. 12 at Norwin High School auditorium. All of the school’s choirs came together to celebrate the holiday season with performances from the Concert Choir, Bel Canto Treble Choir, Show Choir, and Chamber Singers. The concert included many holiday classics, such as “Let it snow! Let it snow! Let it snow!”, “Silent Night”, “Joy to the World”, and “Deck the Halls.”
“Our Norwin concert is always a highlight of the winter season for our community,” said choral director, Mrs. Bridget Faulk. “It’s time to slow down and focus on music, It’s a time to just set aside for family and relaxation during this busy holiday season.”
The night started out with three songs performed by Chamber Singers, a competitive mixed choir, conducted by Mrs. Lauren Scheirer.
Other songs included holiday music classics like “Let it Snow!” by Dean Martin, “In Dulci Jubilo“ by Heinrich Seus, ”Joy to the World“ by Isaac Watts, “Celebrate” by Kool & The Gang, “Night of Silence” by Daniel Kantor, and “Hot Chocolate” by Tom Hanks, and many more.
“Everybody is able to come together to perform some lighthearted music and showcase that song truly brings people together,” said senior President of Bel Canto, Addison Baer. “It gives us an opportunity to showcase our hard work and passion for music.”
To introduce Bel Canto, Baer came out with vice president, Maura Henaghan, to discuss both their set for the night and their upcoming performance tour to D.C. in collaboration with Norwin’s orchestra.
Show Choir participated in the Winter Concert, but every year Show Choir is active during ‘Sparkle Season’ with community events such as singing and collecting donations for the Hearth Shelter, singing at nursing homes and all of the Norwin School District buildings.
“So during our sparkle season, the Show Choir goes and performs every day in a new location whether that’s a nursing home, or like for example a couple days ago we went to the Rotary Lunch,” said Show Choir president Sarah McHugh. “We collect money for our service projects, which is our work with the Hearth Shelter in Norwin In Action.”
