The Ripped Jeans is a band started by two sisters, Sienna DeJesus a Norwin junior, and her younger sister Malena DeJesus a freshman. According to the Band official website, the girls are “two classically-trained singers and a piano. A mix of contemporary and classic song.”
Listen to the girls sing a Journey cover at the White Tree Coffee Shop in Irwin.

The two members of the band are musically talented singers. Sienna, the older sister, has achieved a multitude of rewards for her singing such as receiving Honors at County Choir, getting selected to speak at the Norwin Choir Concert, and singing the National Anthem at the Pittsburgh Riverhounds Soccer game. Malena is also a very talented singer whose singing achievements include, being one of four finalists in Highmark’s First Night SING-OFF competition with her sister Sienna, invited to sing at Heinz Hall for the Performing Arts with her sister Sienna, and invited to perform New Year’s Eve in downtown Pittsburgh with her sister Sienna.
Sienna and Malena go to businesses, parks, churches, and any other place they are invited to, last night I got to go to one of the gigs and interview Malena about the band, this is what she had to say:
Q: How do you get gigs?
A: Sienna and I get gigs by going around to different businesses and showing them our business cards. We showcase what types of songs we play (contemporary and classic) so a mix of all different types of songs and our availability.
Q: Why did you choose to start your band?
A: We chose to start our band because we love music and we’ve been singing since we were in elementary school and it just really causes us to sing as one of our favorite hobbies that helps let out our emotions. It helps to sort of spark interest in not only ourselves, but it also helps to spark interest in other people around the community.

Q: What is the best part about having a band?
A. I’d say one of the best parts about having a band is being able to go around to different businesses and being able to just communicate with the owners chat them talk to them about their business and also being able to stay in contact with them afterwards and maybe book another gig at that place afterwards I also really like the aspect of family members and friends being able to come to gigs and just sort of celebrate and congregate and I feel involved in the community aspect.
Q: Do you have any further plans for the band?
A: So for plans for the band, we have many gigs booked for the summer and we are also beginning to write original music which will be up-and-coming so our gigs will be having original songs written just for you guys!
