The 2024–2025 school year was a year of change, growth, and continued service for our AF JROTC program. We began the year with one instructor, MSgt Holly Jadlocki, who provided steady leadership and guidance. In November, we welcomed a new addition to the team: Lt Col Jason Luhn. As a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy and a former KC-135 pilot, Lt Col Luhn brings a wealth of experience and fresh perspective to our cadets and the program as a whole.
This year, our cadets logged over 1,200 hours of community service, volunteering at local food banks, supporting events at Irwin Manor, and assisting with multiple elementary school carnivals. Their commitment to giving back has strengthened our connection to the community and built character and leadership skills among our members.
A major change implemented this year was a new uniform policy. Instead of wearing uniforms weekly, cadets now wear them once a month. Additionally, we transitioned to the Operational Camouflage Pattern (OCP) uniform, giving our cadets a modern, professional look that aligns with current Air Force uniforms.
One of the year’s biggest highlights was our annual Bataan Death March Memorial Hike, a 14-mile challenge that brought together cadets and staff from North Allegheny, Laurel Highlands, Plum, Pine-Richland and Mars. With our Group Commander, senior Luke Sivic leading the planning for this event, we proudly raised nearly $2,500 for Wreaths Across America, supporting the organization’s mission to honor and remember our nation’s veterans.
Recruiting was another standout success this year. Thanks to strong outreach efforts and program visibility lead by our Admissions Officer, junior Mike Defazio, we surpassed our recruitment goals and are thrilled to report an almost 40% increase in enrollment for the coming school year.
As we look ahead, the AF JROTC program is stronger than ever—grounded in leadership, community, and growth. With an expanding team, motivated cadets, and ambitious goals, we’re ready to make 2025–2026 our best year yet.
