The Apparatus is a band founded by two Norwin students Tommy Waters (12th grade) and Matthew Spottedbear ( 2024 graduate) in 2023, and later join by Harrison Indie Mordaunt (12th grade) and Logan Campagna (11 grade). Tommy is the lead singer and rhythm guitarist for the Apparatus, Harrison is lead guitar/backup/scream vocals for the Apparatus, Matthew does bass guitar for the Apparatus, and Logan does drums/scream vocals for the Apparatus.

The band has attracted popularity with Norwin students who are fans of the Heavy metal genre of music and have stood out from other musicians because of their commitment to be the face of the new generation of new grunge.

“Well first off we want a sense of rebellion to America and to the generations that have unfolded and we are just music lovers and I have been a musician for all my life,” said band member Tommy Waters. “I just want to show the world what I got. I want to be relatable and I want to see everyone be their self and don’t give a flying crap on what others say to you do what you love be what you wanna be it’s better this way but anyway we just want to put a new mark on the world.”
The first concert for the apparatus took place in Greensburg on Sep 17, 2025 at The Green Beacon Art Gallery. The night started out with band members and their friends sprinting to the gas station, then to see a bunch of groupies and random people following them and met up with the band Morning Wood to finally get a crowd going, then played a show like no other for this time. Then they performed their new album “Urge” and they played their new single “George of the Jungle.”

“I never actually went out to seek the Apparatus, it was more like fate that they found me,” said Harrison. “Matt happened to be at a show I was playing live at in January of 2024, and asked if I was interested in joining after. It was perfect because I had been looking to join a band for years prior.”
The Apparatus professionally and unprofessionally practice their music, saving every chance they get to write. They use a mix of jamming out and sitting down to write personally.
“I think one of the things that sets our band apart from others is our age,” said band member Logan Campagna. “Most people see a bunch of kids on stage and don’t really expect much.”
The next performance for the Apparatus will be opening for a costume party in West Newton on October 25th. The band will be performing songs from their upcoming album “URGE”.
