Meet the Mascot

Molly Campbell, 11, holds the knight head after her debut home football game mascot appearance.

When most people get ready for Friday night football, they put on their jerseys or uniforms, or their blue and gold. Junior Molly Campbell, however, has a different approach to getting ready for the big game that includes wearing a giant Knight head.

“It all started when I tried out for the cheerleading team, but didn’t make it,” said Campbell. “My coach loved my enthusiasm and wanted to see me in a different role and the cheerleaders also wanted to see me on the squad.”

Through discussions with the cheerleading coach, athletic director, and her parents, Campbell found her role as the official Norwin Knight mascot.

Molly Campbell’s debut as the Knight came during the homecoming game in October.

“It was one of the best nights of my life! It was a lot better than being in the stands and it was so much fun dancing, jumping, waving and getting the crowd all excited,” said Campbell on her first game as the mascot. “Many people were taking pictures and videos of me in the Knight costume, which is something I’ll never forget.”

As the Knight mascot, Campbell has been able to engage with the crowd, keep fans excited, and make the games more fun for everyone overall. She has also been able to work alongside some of her closest friends on the cheerleading squad.

“Molly is such a great addition to the team! It was so great to see her interacting with some of the kids in our community before the games on Friday nights,” said Molly’s friend and senior cheer captain, Kassidee Scalise. “She always has such a positive attitude and is so fun to be around. She really helped to add an extra level of school spirit every Friday and the cheerleaders loved having her join us on the sidelines!”

In addition to making Friday nights more fun for everyone, Campbell is heavily involved in other school activities. She is a member of Student Council, Peer Buddies, and is the President of the Unified Sports team. She even dressed as Olaf in this year’s “Light Up Night” parade!

If you haven’t had a chance to see Campbell as the Knight yet, no need to worry; fans can expect to see Campbell as the Knight in the near future including the upcoming boys basketball season and Race for Grace.
