Lights up!
The Norwin Theater Company set the stage for their fall play this October: A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The NTC added its own special flares and twists, inviting the whole audience to be apart of the exciting tale, which includes getting to further interact with characters and more. The talented cast and crew members were really looking forward to getting this show on the road and sharing this wonderful story with the people of Norwin.
“This year’s selection is particularly exciting because my team and I have never produced a Shakespeare play,” Lauren Scheirer, one of the many talented directors of the NTC, said. “We are looking forward to this new creative challenge!”
A Midsummer Night’s Dream is a Shakespearean play that tells the story of four Athenians who scurry off into the forest, leading to Puck the fairy accidentally making two guys fall in love with the same girl. There is chaos, a man’s head transforms into that of a donkey, and a fight almost breaks out. In the end though, everyone comes together to wed the two couples and celebrate their love.
Baylee Webber, a current junior and a member of stage crew, highlighted her experience with preparing for the show. This was her 3rd show with the NTC, and she was beyond excited.
“So far to prepare, we have been working on cleaning up shop and reorganizing the prop rooms,” Webber remarked. “We haven’t started on anything for the set just yet, but having an organized area will help speed everything up.”
To prepare for their four show days in October, the cast and crew created a magical environment that expands the imagination of the audience. To do this, they created this Shakespearean world, but more modernized. From flashy outfits to real life filters, this version of A Midsummer Night’s Dream will absolutely not compare to anything else.
“I think the audience will enjoy the setting of this play,” Mrs. Scheirer stated. “And the immersive elements our directors are incorporating will definitely be entertaining.”
All in all, A Midsummer Night’s Dream was a hit. The audience loved the play, and through the entertaining cast and the interactive elements, there was no stopping the NTC. The intriguing, modernized approach to this Shakespearean classic made this show into a production everyone loved. October 12th – 15th allowed imaginations to soar, and the cast and crew were thrilled with their performance.
“It was awesome,” crew member Theo Summers said. “The play truly came together and created magic.”
Throughout the preparation process and the show, there was a community created and a story told. People that took part in the play were proud of their work, and cannot wait until the show in the spring.
