After years and years of no recognition, the Norwin Basketball Association or In-House League is finally set to have its first class of players set into the Norwin Hall of Fame.
This year being the first year there are inductees the Norwin Hall of Fame will be honoring people from this year with five inductees from this previous season. The Norwin inductees are chosen based on athletic performance, statistics, and greatness on and off the court.
“It’s a great honor to have my ‘Name-Image-Likeness’ plastered on the wall outside of the gym,” said standout NBA superstar Richard Zappone. “Ever since I was a young lad, I’ve always looked up to the former NBA greats and their athletic prowess in the Stewartsville gym on random Tuesdays. Now, those kids can look up to me, literally because I’m on the wall.”
Previously, the Norwin Athletic Hall of Fame has been reserved for ‘actual athletes’ of Norwin, and In-House players have always been discrimated against and excluded and told things like “In House is not a real sport” or “anyone who pays can play.”
“From watching these teams play I can tell anyone with pure certainty that they deserve this, they leave their hearts out on the court every night,” said avid fan and groupie student-spectator Jim Nickel.
Despite sports like baseball, track and field, and even swimming, Norwin never gave justice to true athletes like the N.B.A. athletes. This event will take place this summer on June 20, 2024. There will be five inductions from the inaugural class of 2024.
“Ball is life,” said NBA legend Martin “The Hammer” Tougher. “I just don’t miss. Don’t leave me open, fool.”
Part of the reason that the N.B.A. is open now to the Norwin Hall of Fame is because of former N.B.A.-Stud-Zach Moffat’s scholarship to Florida State University for Intramural Basketball in the class of 2022. After one to two years of debate, the board of the N.B.A. led by Joe Fitzgerald and Thomas Carney Jr., came to the conclusion that the league needs a spot in the Norwin Hall of Fame. The high school was directly on board after learning about these athletes’ unrecognized greatness.
Another spark for the Hall of Fame is the legendary of Joseph Fitzgerald (class of 2023) and his skillz at L.A. Fitness which translates well to the dimly lit, tiny ‘cafe-gym-atoriums’ of Norwin’s elementary schools.
“It’s about time these guys get put in the hall of fame they’re putting up the same amount of points that these guys and gals are in the official high school games,” Former N.B.A. Athlete in the 2023-2024 season, Joe Cramer said.
The following players and inductees averaged over 30 points a game, 10 assists, and 25 fans a game. The inductees are as follows: Marty Tougher (38.6 points, 12.1 assists, and 148.9 fans), Ryan Charles (36.4 points, 11.8 assists, and 61.9 fans)., Jake Spotti (35.9 points, 11.3 assists, and 100.8 fans), Sam Stinelli (32.8 points, 10.9 assists, and 68.1 fans)., And last but not least Rick Zapone (30.9 points, 10.2 assists, and 50.8 fans).
”We are too good for the real team, the N.B.A. is more realistic and more competitive, at the end of the games there’s a couple of people injured, and everyone’s exhausted because it’s always a battle on the court,” number one inductee Marty Tougher said.
