The year is 2019 and you and your friends go out for a fun night of dinner and ice skating, maybe even stop at a holiday market. In a normal year there are so many fun activities to do around the holidays, but this year due to the Covid we have to modify our holiday activities. Here are some fun and Covid safe holiday activities!

  • Bake Christmas Cookies

This one may seem like a no brainer but it is definitely a fun safe activity! You could ask your grandma for her traditional cookie recipes or get creative with it and find your own holiday tree recipes.

  • Look at Christmas lights

This is something everyone of all ages can enjoy! There is nothing like going for a drive through different neighborhoods to scout out all the festive decorations.

  • Watch holiday movies

Obviously this one had to make the list! Nothing better than snuggling up with a blanket and watching some Christmas classics like Elf, The Grinch, Polar Express, Home Alone, Christmas Story, and National Lampoons Christmas.

  • Decorate your home for Christmas

This is one of my favorite things to do the weekend following Thanksgiving. Getting the Christmas tree out and all the cute decorations to put around the house. Making your own DIY decorations is a great activity to get in the holiday spirit!

  • Make holiday drinks

Whether it’s flavored hot chocolate or some other type of holiday flavored drink it’s definitely a fun activity to do with friends or family. Each person could find a holiday drink recipe and make it then have a group taste test.

  • Make ornaments

I used to do this when I was a kid and it still is fun to see all the homemade ornaments on the Christmas tree, so why not continue the tradition each year!

  • Sing/Dance to holiday music

Whether you’re with friends and family or by yourself in your room, dancing to holiday classics or modern takes on the classics is a great way to get in the holiday spirit. Nothing better than jamming out to Mariah Carey’s All I Want for Christmas is You.

  • Virtual holiday party

I’m sure a majority of you have used some kind of virtual setting whether it’s for classes or work, but why not make it fun! Gather all your family and friends on a virtual call maybe for a festive game night!

  • Make a gingerbread house

Whether you get a kit from the store or start from scratch, making gingerbread houses is definitely a holiday favorite. You could go classic house or get creative with it and make a mini house, train, or even teepee.

  • Make & send holiday cards

Every year it’s always fun to get christmas cards in the mail from friends and family. Maybe ask your mom if this year she’d let you design the holiday card, or even write special cards for the people you care about.

  • Write cards to veterans & nursing homes

This is a great way to bring smiles to people during the Holiday season, especially this year with some people not being able to make it home for Christmas. It’s nice to let people know they are cared for.

  • Donate & volunteer

People always say this is the season of giving, so try to give back anyway you can whether it be by donating to charity or donating your time this holiday season.

       Bonus: Play in the snow

Weather permitting getting out and playing in the snow is always fun to do this time of year! So get those snow boots on and go make that snowman or have that snowball fight!

It has been a tough year for everyone, but that doesn’t mean we can’t find fun and safe ways to spend our holiday break! Hopefully next year we can get back to those dinner and ice skating dates with trips to the holiday markets but for now everyone stay safe, happy holidays and a blessed new year everyone.
